INNOVATIVE GLOBAL VSAT SOLUTION SUPPORTS COCA-COLA VOICE AND DATA NETWORKING REQUIREMENTS IN REMOTE RUSSIAN REGIONS

Moscow, July 8, 1999 Global One in Russia, the joint venture of Global One and Central Telegraph of Russia, has completed a major corporate voice and data network, linking 20 Coca-cola sites throughout Russia. The project, which began in 1997, permits high-quality communications among widely-dispersed Coca-cola bottling plants, warehouses and offices in Russia, interconnecting them with Coca-cola headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, and other facilities worldwide. Global One in Russia designed and installed the Coca-cola network using Global Vsat, the Global One satellite-based Vsat (Very Small Aperture Terminal) service. A total of 24 Vsats have been installed in cooperation with Moskovsky Teleport, a partner of Detesat, a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Telecom in Russia. The small size, low cost, and relatively independent operation of the Vsat terminals has made them ideal for linking sites via satellite in difficult-to-reach areas, such as Siberia. The new network also utilizes microwave and fiber optic technology in a customized solution designed specifically to meet Coca-cola´ s complex voice and data requirements in a geographic area spanning 11 time zones. In some of the most remote regions, the new Coca-cola network has brought dial tone capabilities for the first time. Global One in Russia has, in fact, been a pioneer in designing turnkey solutions in Russia and in building a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, which today includes fiber optic loops in Moscow and two other cities. "We are pleased to have been chosen by such an important multinational customer as Coca-cola to develop its corporate network in Russia, " said Victor Ratnikov, President of Global One in Russia. "We look forward to adding more sites to the network in 1999 and continuing our collaboration thereafter. " Wil Mauk, Coca-cola Information Services Manager in Russia, commented: "High-quality, end-to-end communications are critical to our operation, and Global One provided a very effective customized voice and data solution that has more than met our expectations.
