PDP. IBM EXTENDS COLLABORATION PORTFOLIO, BRINGS COST-EFFECTIVE E-MAIL SOLUTION TO NEW USERS

Orlando, Fla., January 30 , 2003 - Ibm Corporation announced the beta version of a standards-based e-mail solution that allows organizations to easily extend enterprise e-mail to users who are currently without a dedicated workspace or e-mail access. This offering is the first e-mail solution built to run on Ibm Websphere and Ibm Db2 technologies. In addition to complementing an existing Ibm Lotus Domino messaging environment, it also addresses the needs of organizations not using Domino or using competitive messaging solutions. Ibm´s new e-mail solution is useful for deskless workers within the organization, such as retail clerks, factory floor and assembly line employees. These users typically receive a lower volume of messages and require a solution that is both intuitive and easy to use with little or no training. This new e-mail solution meets all of these end-user requirements while delivering the high level of reliability, availability and scalability customers expect from Ibm. This new e-mail environment can help provide customers a cost-effective method to extend and tailor their overall messaging solution to help maximize communication and employee productivity. "This marks an important step for Lotus software as we deliver on our next generation collaboration offerings," said Ken Bisconti, Vice President, Messaging and Advanced Collaboration Solutions for Lotus Software, Ibm. "As we expand the set of users that we serve, we remain committed to delivering innovative, standards-based messaging solutions that give our customers flexibility and choice, while consistently helping them lower their total cost of ownership." Ibm´s new e-mail solution is built for enterprise customers and provides high levels of e-mail fidelity and interoperability across heterogeneous computing environments. Built on the latest Internet and Web standards, the components run on the Ibm Websphere platform and use Ibm´s Db2 relational database to help deliver high scalability and overall performance. Ibm´s new e-mail product supports the directory integration and administration of an organization´s existing messaging infrastructure to allow customers to extend their Ibm Lotus Notes and Domino infrastructure while maintaining the ability to adapt to evolving business needs. Pricing and Availability Ibm´s new e-mail product is scheduled to be available in Q2 2003. Pricing will be announced at availability. For an additional fee, Ibm Software Services for Lotus will help introduce the new e-mail product into customer environments through technical services for installation configuration, knowledge transfer and capacity and network bandwidth planning. Customers can also engage technical services to integrate this new solution into existing messaging environments as well as portal solutions customers may have already adopted.
