LA COMMISSIONE EUROPEA DIBATTE SULLA PARTECIPAZIONE CIVICA ATTIVA E PREMIA CON STELLE D´ORO I PROGETTI DEI CITTADINI

Bruxelles, 18 novembre 2008 - In seguito a una selezione effettuata all´inizio di quest´anno la Commissione europea insignisce oggi di ´Stelle d´oro della cittadinanza europea attiva´ 12 progetti di partecipazione civica nell´ambito di una cerimonia che si svolge a Bruxelles. La cerimonia costituirà anche l´occasione per inaugurare ufficialmente il Forum 2008 "L´europa per i cittadini", che rappresenta un´opportunità di dibattito sulle questioni legate alla partecipazione civica e all´importanza che questa riveste per l´Europa. Le Stelle d´oro sono il riconoscimento ufficiale assegnato annualmente a progetti finanziati nell´ambito del programma L´europa per i cittadini che intende coinvolgere i cittadini nella costruzione dell´Europa. Per il solo 2008 il programma intende mobilitare quasi un milione di partecipanti diretti, dando loro la possibilità di scoprire le differenze e le affinità culturali con cittadini di altri paesi europei. Nel contesto di più di 1200 scambi, persone di quasi 4 000 città di tutta Europa si incontreranno e discuteranno in che modo i valori comuni europei si ripercuotono sulla loro vita quotidiana. Inoltre, concedendo un sostegno finanziario a progetti per la memoria storica, il programma stimola tra i cittadini europei la consapevolezza del loro retaggio storico comune. Il Forum è stato inaugurato il 13 novembre da Ján Figel´, commissario europeo responsabile per l´Istruzione, la Formazione, la Cultura e la Gioventù, da Jean-pierre Jouyet, segretario di Stato francese responsabile per gli Affari europei, da Marek Mora, vice primo ministro facente funzione responsabile per gli Affari europei della Repubblica ceca e da Hannu Takkula, deputato del Parlamento europeo e presidente della giuria del premio Stelle d´oro. "I progetti cui assegniamo oggi le Stelle d´oro dimostrano che l´Europa è stata costruita per i suoi cittadini – e che sono i cittadini europei a fare la differenza. L´ue ha una vocazione che va al di là dei semplici aspetti economici e commerciali, dobbiamo sviluppare di più il suo lato umano. Sono convinto che una maggiore partecipazione dei cittadini farà avanzare l´Europa e la trasformerà in qualcosa di ancor più umano. Le testimonianze che presenteremo domani nel nostro Forum lo confermeranno," ha dichiarato il commissario Figel´. Le sessioni plenarie e i workshop che si terranno il 14 novembre in occasione del Forum "L´europa per i cittadini" consentiranno di farsi un´idea delle diverse forme di impegno dei cittadini e degli strumenti per il suo esercizio attivo. Si riserverà un´attenzione particolare alle imminenti elezioni del Parlamento europeo e alle nuove forme innovative di partecipazione civica. Tra i principali oratori vi saranno Sandra Kalniete, deputato del Parlamento lettone e ex membro della Commissione europea, che ha svolto un ruolo attivo nel movimento di indipendenza del suo paese, nonché Tommaso Padoa-schioppa, considerato il "padre fondatore" e "l´impulso intellettuale" per la realizzazione dell´euro, i quali presenteranno le loro testimonianze sull´importanza della partecipazione dei cittadini in Europa. L´evento è aperto alla stampa. Il 13 novembre sarà possibile intervistare il sig. Figel´, il sig. J. Marszalek, sindaco di Oswiecim in Polonia, e il sig. Takkula in occasione di un incontro con la stampa che si terrà al termine della cerimonia di premiazione.
